Just as in blog #3 - post a question and then a response to a different question on the rebellions of 1837/1838 - you can either use the presentations from class on Friday or check out the following website looking specifically at ISSUES, SUMMARY and AFTERMATH. http://www.edunetconnect.com/cat/rebellions/.  Remember these questions might be something you have trouble understanding or a main point that you feel is important to know.

Why did the rebellion of Lower Canada fail and where did the rebels go after? Why?

The rebellion in Lower Canada failed because the rebels were ill prepared and badly led. The rebels went to the USA specifically Hunter’s Lodge. From there they continued to attempt to overthrow the goverment.

After you read the following article/summary from this link http://www.thecanadianencyclopedia.com/articles/red-river-colony create one of your own inquiry questions (a question that you wonder about the settlement, an issue you have with something you have read or anything else about the Red…

I will response to Christine Docherty’s question.

Why did the Hudson’s Bay company give Lord Selkirk 300 000km2 of land? And why did the settlers have such difficulty becoming self-sufficient in that land?

HBC gave Selkirk the land because they needed a place for the people who couldn’t make it back home and the developed parts of Canada were getting overpopulated. Settlers had a hard time becoming self-sufficient because of the harsh winters and lack of food supply.

War of 1812 - Blog #2 - Term 2

keenerwgss:

go to this link http://www.warof1812.ca/ and then scroll down until you find the PBS video (under Video Documentaries).  Watch the video and answer the following questions:

1. Why is it the forgotten war?

2. Why is it important to Canada?

Once done this, click on the 1812 Bicentenial museum and news link (at top of page) and scroll down until you find the Rick Mercer Youtube video (Oct 15) - if you want a laugh check out his role in the reenactments.

1. It was the forgotten war because the thirteen colonies didn’t participate and they were unloyal to the US.

2. The war of 1812 because it keep us as Canadians and not Americans.

The immigrants brought new ideas from the European revolutions. The population grew by a very large amount. The new immigrants also created new disputes between upper and lower Canada.

Watch the video clip of the last battle from THE PATRIOT…..provide reasons/explanations as to why the US won the revolutionary war against the British

The US won the revolutionary war for many reasons. The Americans had much more determindnation and spirit. There was so much more in it for them then the British. The British were in it for money and power but the Americans were fighting for how they would live there lives. The Americans had the support of the French and the British had no allies. Also the British also under estimated the Americans. Military tactics of the Americans were much better than the British who gave out quick unplanned orders.

Blog Post #5:
Provide ideas that would answer this question:
Why might the colonists’ have felt that mercantilism was an unfair system?

I think that the colonist would have found mercantilism unfair because they provided the the raw materials needed for products. The products made from their material was were expensive and they were only paid a small amount for their product.
